Postcode Search – Type in a valid postcode within West Berkshire and press the Go button to focus the map over the specified postcode.
Address Search – press the Go button to activate the address search wizard. Enter a valid postcode or street name within West Berkshire. Step through the wizard using the mouse to select address options followed by the Next button. Finally, click on the Show Map button to return to the map. The map will be shown centered over the selected property. The red star shows the property location. Note that the Selected Property bar under the map is populated with the selected address.
Town/Village Search – Simply choose a Town or Village name from the dropdown list to focus the map over the chosen place.
Zoom In – Select the Zoom In option located above the map and click on the map at a point where you would like to zoom in. Alternatively, you can click and drag a box around an area you wish to zoom in to.
Zoom Out – Select the Zoom Out option located above the map and click on the map to zoom out. Alternatively, you can click and drag a box to zoom out to various scales. A small box will zoom out a long way, a larger box will zoom out less.
Centre Map – Select the Centre Map option located above the map. Simply click on the map at the location where you wish to centre the map. The map will then focus on this point.
Map Scale bar – Use the plus and minus arrows on the scale bar located above the map to show the map at larger or smaller scales respectively. Alternatively, hover the mouse over the scale bar graduations to view the map scale options before clicking on one of them. The Interactive Map can be viewed at eight different scales. It is restricted to these scales only.
Map Arrows – Use one of the eight arrows surrounding the map to move the map in the direction of the arrow.
Larger Map/Smaller map – The Interactive Map is designed for screen resolutions of 800 x 600 or above. Users with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 who have a broadband connection may want to take advantage of the Larger Map option. Screen refresh speeds may be compromised if using the large map over a dial-up connection.
Selected Property Bar – This section will show any address selection that has been made via the address search tool. The selected property will be shown on the map by a red star. Options available on the Selected Property Bar when an address has been chosen include Show Property to refocus the map on the selected property, Clear Selection to clear a selected property and Property Info which links into the Property Search function. This provides a wealth of information relating to the selected property.
Highlighted Data Bar – This section is only visible when the interactive map is accessed from certain other pages on the web site. It shows information about selected features within a map layer that will be displayed and highlighted. Highlighted Data is shown in Yellow. This may highlight a particular school catchment area or a library location for instance. Use the Clear Selection option on the highlighted information bar to clear any feature selections.
Information Bar – Use the Show Information option located above the map to click on the map at a point where you require information. The Information Bar will reveal any information about features in map layers that it finds at a specific location. Please note that this information is limited to only the map layers that are turned on in the legend.
